This has become a vary serious issue for many reasons. There are some free programs that will help you minimize the intrusions that the above may cause your computer.

Trend Micro has a good free scanning program that can help you identify and possibly remove any of the above problems you might have on your computer. Click the link below to go to their site.

Here are two programs that do very well with combating Spyware/Malware and pop up ads.  Just click on the name of the company below and it will take you to a site so the program can be downloaded.  After it's downloaded, install their software, update it, and run a scan on your computer. The program Spybot has an option that will allow you to "Immunize" your computer. This helps to keep the computer clean of most of the above problems you are having now. It's also important to update it about once a week or so and "Immunize" it again to keep this from happening again!

Keep in mind if your computer is infected enough with the above problems, you may need to reformat the hard drive and reinstall the operating system.  If you have a major brand computer, you may have what are called “restore disks” that came with your computer.  It will restore your computer to its brand new factory state.  Some brands have this restore feature already on your hard drive.  Before you do a reformat or a factory restore, back up your Internet favorites and your data.  If you don’t, you will lose all that information.  Also keep in mind you will need to reinstall the programs you added after you received the computer.

If you are unsure how to do this reformat or restore function, check your documentation that came with your computer or contact the company that either sold you the computer or built it for you. 

If you do a reformat or use the “restore program” , I strongly recommend you install a good anti-virus program, update it, and subscribe to the update program. It should automatically update the program for you!  After that is completed, install programs like Spybot and Ad-aware and update them.  This will help prevent your computer from being infected again!
