“I see you have come bearing gifts of some type here. This is interesting. Anything you wish to share with me?”
He noticed what she was wearing. Her black dress was so beautiful. It went just past her knees. It was elegant looking, but looked simply gorgeous on her. His mouth opened some and he couldn’t do nothing but clear his throat. He was absolutely taken back by her sheer beauty. Her hair was done up in a fashion that only she could do. She just stood there patiently waiting for a compliment.
After clearing his throat a few times, he humbly says, “As a matter of fact, yes. Well you might look like a million bucks, but you’re not going out with me looking like that either. This dress needs something special.”
Her hands were quickly placed quickly on her hips with her hands closed like a loose fist. But then he brought out the red rose with the stem cut really short.
“Normally I would give you a corsage, but tonight I felt you needed something more fitting for the occasion.”
He pinned it to her dress on the right side of center. She stood back and he smiled brightly and said, “Excuse me for starring, but I didn’t realize you were royalty. As your humble companion, I’d like the honor of escorting you out for the night. There might be some trouble tonight so where are your bodyguards? Will they be following us?”
She looked puzzled briefly, but smiled as he holds out his arm so she can put hers under his as they walked out the door.
He continues, “Well let me explain. Seeing I have the most beautiful lady in the world on my arm right now, I’m sure other guys will be hitting on you tonight...wanting a piece of the action so to speak.”
She smiles at him saying “Well I’m being taken out tonight by a dashing man that looks like a million bucks himself. By the way, if you think you can sweet talk your way into my heart, think again. But on the other hand, keep trying. You’re hitting all the right buttons.” She squeezes his hand and leans her head on his upper arm as they walk out of her house.
“The watch and bracelet look really good on you…”
Bill just smiled. “I know. Remember, it’s the man that makes the watch and bracelet look good, not the other way around!”
“I know…” she said in a commentary tone.
Chapter 16
They pulled up to the front of the dance hall. The valet opens the car door for Grace and the other gets the drivers door. Bill turns off the car and hands the valet parking key to the valet. They looked up at the entrance to the hall. It’s has huge wooden gold accented doors. It gives the entrance an elegant touch of class. They make their way towards the dance room. As they got closer the sound of the music becomes louder. The rhythm of the music begins to stir the soul enough to invite people to want to participate in it. They make their way to a table where they can either sit and order food or just sit and enjoy the music. They both sit together watching the band for a while. The band just started playing the song; Time (Clock of the Heart) By Mark Chesnutt. Half way through the song, they looked at each other. They both were thinking the same thing. They don’t have much time because tomorrow Bill was leaving. They both were moving to the beat of the music. They start to get up and dance, but the waiter comes by and asks them if they want a drink or order their dinner. So they gave the waiter their orders.
“Well I don’t know about you, but I’m looking forward to dancing with a dashing man tonight. Do you know anyone that might be interested?” she hints.
He jokingly said with a straight face, “Well I really don’t care to be dancing with any man myself.”
She looks at him, cracks up, and starts laughing.
“But I would love to dance with you,” he whispers to her.
With that, he stood up and asked, “May I have this dance?”
She offered her hand and he gently helped her up. Then they danced to few songs while waiting for their dinner to arrive. After a while, it does.
They talked and sometimes fed each other food in a romantic type of way during their meal. The feeling they both felt inside towards the other was magnificent. Just like two peas in a pod. Whether it was rock-n-roll, easy listening, or whatever, the band continued to play while some of the other couples danced. They finished their meal while enjoying each other’s company as they always did.
Soon they were on the dance floor again. When the music changed, they would change their style of dancing to the beat of the music. Finally, they both decided it was time to sit down and catch their breath. The music stopped for a little bit. What Grace was about to experience tonight would change her life forever. Bill hadn’t told her what was going to happen next. Nor did he hint about it either. “You know Bill, you certainly know how to show a lady a good time. I’m having a marvelous time here with you tonight. These days we’ve had together have been really great.”
“I can say the same thing to you too. But this night isn’t over yet. The surprise is yet to come.”
As she was about to ask him what he meant, he excused himself because he said he had to go to the restroom. About 10 minutes later, the lead singer spoke saying,
“Tonight folks, we have something special to share with you. We have a few new songs that we are going to play for you. What is so special is we didn’t write them, but a gentleman here in the audience wrote the lyrics. We proudly attach these songs to our lists of our other fine songs we have recorded. The first song is dedicated to a marvelous lady, as he put it. Grace will you stand up please?”
She looked around for another Grace. Eventually she pointed to herself. He shook his head yes. So she slowly stood up wondering what was going on. Then she wondered why Bill hadn’t returned.
“This song was written and will be recorded just for you.”
There were about 50 couples in the dancing area. They all looked back at her wondering who this lady is to get this special attention. The music started playing. And out from the back of the stage out comes Bill. As they continued playing, Bill started to sing,
Have you looked into her eyes
And seen her wonderful smile
As she has the look so wise
That warms you there inside
She’s a Cover Girl, can’t you see
She’s a Cover Girl, at least to me
She’s a Cover Girl, for all to see
She’s a Cover Girl...
